January Program - “The Life & Patchworks of Lucy Boston”

For 40 years in her ancient Manor House in the UK, Lucy Boston (1892 - 1990) sewed patchworks while writing her famous Green Knowe children's books.  The best known of her patchworks is the “Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses”, which has been replicated by thousands of quilters.  What interested Lucy most was the use of pattern within the fabrics she used, working with these to create different patterns within her patchworks. Lucy’s patchwork collection is on display at The Manor in Hemingford Grey, UK. Our January program features Diana Boston, Lucy’s daughter-in-law, who owns The Manor and is curator of Lucy’s patchwork collection.  Diana will speak about Lucy’s life and look in detail at a number of Lucy’s patchworks, “deconstructing” them virtually to show and explain the techniques that Lucy Boston Used.   More information on The Manor and Lucy Boston's patchworks, books and garden, can be found at www.greenknowe.co.uk.
