The Appliqué Society (TAS) was founded by Anita M. Smith of Clinton, Washington. In February of 1997she mailed 100 letters to quilt guilds in Washington State, Oregon and Idaho to announce her plan for anew organization devoted entirely to one area of quilting…appliqué. On April 26, 1997 an organizational meeting was held in Edmonds, Washington and welcomed 75 appliqué lovers. At that meeting volunteers formed a steering committee, and in September 1997 the first informational newsletter was mailed, and the first official meeting was held in September 27, 1997. Since that time TAS has welcomed members from across America and also around the world. The Appliqué Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization devoted entirely to the art of appliqué. It consists of a very diverse group of appliqué artists, teachers, designers, authors, collectors and enthusiasts interested in joining with others worldwide to advance and promote appliqué. Our Mission Statement is "To Promote, Teach, and Encourage the Love of All Types of Appliqué in Quilting". We work to educate and promote public interest in the world of appliqué. The Appliqué Society and its members wish to ensure that the art of appliqué will continue through the generations. Appliqué is a fast-growing interest in the quilting world and inspires a real passion in those interested in this technique. Because of this common passion, The Appliqué Society is an exciting place to learn, express and appreciate “the art of appliqué”. The Applique Society 522 W.
